TikTok Shadowban: How to Tell, How to Fix It & How Long It Lasts (2026)

A TikTok shadowban is when your videos quietly stop reaching the For You feed without a ban notice. TikTok doesn't use the word. In the app, the same thing shows up as a post that is ineligible for the For You feed, or an account that is temporarily ineligible for recommendation and harder to find in search.

How to tell: open TikTok Studio, tap Account check, and look for restricted posts. No restrictions means TikTok isn't flagging anything, and you're most likely looking at a normal dip. Those are common: in Creafico's analysis of 2,954 videos from 546 creators in 2026, 1 in 8 videos got less than 20% of the creator's usual views, even on accounts with over 1 million followers.

How long it lasts: there's no fixed length. Strikes expire after 90 days, and the "two weeks" figure repeated across the web comes from creator anecdotes, not from TikTok.

Below: the exact steps to check, the numbers that separate a normal dip from a real restriction, an appeal template you can copy, and what actually brings your reach back.

What is a TikTok shadowban?

A shadowban is a cut in distribution that nobody announces. You can still post and comment, but new videos stall because TikTok stops recommending them to people who don't follow you.

In practice, what creators call a shadowban is one of two things: a restriction TikTok shows you in the app, or ordinary view variance that feels like a penalty.

Does TikTok actually shadowban you?

Not as a hidden penalty, according to TikTok. TikTok limits reach in four documented ways, and each one appears in the app:

  • One video is ineligible for the For You feed. It stays on your profile and followers can watch it, but TikTok won't recommend it.
  • One video is unavailable to some audiences, usually viewers under 18.
  • Your account is ineligible for recommendation. TikTok applies this temporarily when a creator repeatedly breaks its For You feed standards. The account also gets harder to find in search, and TikTok notifies you and lets you appeal (TikTok Newsroom, April 2024).
  • A feature is restricted. Violations can block you from commenting or sending direct messages.

Older guides claim TikTok won't tell you. That changed in 2024, when TikTok launched Account check so creators can audit their account and their last 30 posts.

Shadowban vs. "ineligible for the For You feed"

Same experience, two vocabularies:

What creators sayWhat TikTok calls itWhere you'll see it

"My account is shadowbanned"Ineligible for recommendationA notification, Account check
"Only some people can see it"Video unavailable to some audiencesThe video's notice

Use TikTok's terms when you search its Help Center or write an appeal. "Ineligible for the For You feed" gets you answers. "Shadowban" mostly gets you myths.

How to tell if you're shadowbanned

Check your Account Status in the app

It takes under two minutes:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the menu (three lines, top right).
  2. Tap TikTok Studio.
  3. Under More Tools, tap Account check.
  4. Read the result. "Some posts are restricted" means specific videos are limited. Tap Restricted post to see which ones and why.

account-check-path Account check sits under More Tools in TikTok Studio. Here, one post is restricted, but the account itself has no violations.

Read the wording. When only posts are restricted, TikTok's screen says the account has no issues or violations, and that new posts won't be restricted if they follow the Community Guidelines. A restricted post is not an account-wide penalty.

Signs in your analytics

If Account check is clear but views are down, check three things:

  • For You traffic. Open a video's analytics and look at its traffic sources. A restriction looks like For You traffic near zero on several new videos while Following and profile traffic hold steady.
  • 0 views. A new video can sit at 0 while TikTok reviews it. Still at 0 after 24 hours? Open the video's details and look for a notice.
  • Search and hashtags. From a second account, search your exact username and a unique phrase from your caption. Account-level restrictions make content harder to find in search.

Then compare your drop with what normal looks like. We measured every video against its creator's baseline, the median views of their previous 5 videos:

Drop vs. your baselineAll creatorsAccounts with 1M+ followers
Under 50% of baseline31.0% of videos34.3% of videos
Under 20% of baseline12.9% of videos13.9% of videos
Under 10% of baseline6.5% of videos5.5% of videos

Creafico analysis of 2,954 videos from 546 accounts, posted January to October 2026. See About the data below.

Rule of thumb: one weak video is noise. Three in a row under 20% of your baseline happened to only 4.0% of accounts (22 of 546). That's your cue to recheck Account check and your traffic sources.

Even then, look at your posting times first. Half of those 3-video slumps spanned under 10 hours, meaning the videos went up back to back. That pattern fits an audience split across too many posts.

Run a shadowban check

Doing this by hand gets old. Creafico's free TikTok shadowban checker runs the check on your public profile, so you can see whether your latest videos sit inside your normal range or form an unusual streak. For a fuller picture of your recent posts, use the TikTok profile analyzer.

What triggers a shadowban

Community Guidelines violations

Most restrictions trace back to two rulebooks: the Community Guidelines, which decide what can stay on TikTok, and the For You feed standards, which decide what TikTok will recommend. A video can pass the first and still fail the second.

Common reasons a video is ineligible for For You:

  • Sexually suggestive, violent, or graphic content
  • Dangerous activities and challenges
  • Some weight-loss and dieting content
  • Unoriginal content, like reuploads from other apps with no real changes
  • Anything posted by users under 16, which is never eligible

Posting too much or spammy behavior

TikTok publishes no posting limit, and frequent posting isn't spam. In our data, the median creator posts 8.6 to 12.3 videos a month depending on follower tier, and a quarter of creators post 15 or more.

What gets restricted is manipulation. TikTok's rules prohibit fake engagement and attempts to game recommendations, which in practice means:

  • Reuploading the same or a near-identical video
  • Mass following and unfollowing
  • Buying views, likes, or followers
  • Pasting the same comment or link across many videos

Multiple accounts on one device or IP

Many of the warnings you'll find about this come from antidetect browser companies, which sell the fix. TikTok's app has a built-in account switcher, so a personal and a brand account on one phone is not a violation.

What TikTok acts on is ban evasion (opening new accounts to get around a ban) and coordinated fake activity (accounts liking, commenting on, or following each other to inflate numbers). If you run several accounts honestly, you don't need a VPN, a second phone, or a special browser.

How to get unshadowbanned

Getting unshadowbanned means clearing the specific restriction. Start in Account check, then use the fix that matches.

Appeal the violation

If you think TikTok got it wrong, appeal. It's free, and a successful appeal lifts the restriction and removes any strike attached to it.

  1. Open the violation notice, or tap the restricted post in Account check.
  2. Tap Appeal in the top right corner.
  3. If there's a text field, paste the template below and fill in the brackets. Then submit.

Don't wait. Appeals have a deadline, and once it passes the option is gone: TikTok shows "Request deadline expired" and the decision stands.

restricted-video-appeal-deadline Left: a video restricted from viewers under 18, with Appeal in the top right. Right: what you see if you miss the appeal window.

Copy-paste appeal template

Hi TikTok team, I'm appealing the restriction on my video posted on [date]. It was flagged for [reason shown on the notice]. The video shows [what actually happens in it, in one sentence]. It's original content I made myself, and it doesn't break the [guideline name] rule because [one specific reason]. Please review it again. Thank you.

Keep it factual: name the exact reason TikTok gave, say in one sentence why it doesn't apply, and skip emotional pleas. If the appeal screen has no text field, the tap itself is the appeal. Use the template for account-level appeals, or under Settings and privacy > Report a problem.

Remove or edit flagged content

If the restriction is fair, deal with the post itself:

  • Delete it if you don't need it. A restricted post isn't a violation on its own, and Account check says so.
  • Re-cut it if the content matters. You can't swap the file on a published post, so trim the flagged part, fix the sound or caption, and upload it as a new video. Never reupload the identical file.
  • Know what deleting won't do. Videos TikTok removes for violations add strikes, which expire after 90 days (TikTok's 2023 enforcement update). The only faster way to clear one is a successful appeal.

Should you keep posting?

Yes, unless your whole account is ineligible for recommendation. For post-level restrictions, TikTok's own screen says new posts aren't affected if they follow the guidelines, so going quiet only costs you momentum.

Three rules while you recover:

  • Keep your normal cadence. Don't post five videos in an afternoon to "test" the account. Bursts split your audience, which can produce the very slump you're worried about.
  • Keep every post clean. No reuploads, no borderline sounds, nothing close to what got flagged.
  • Judge in batches of five. Compare your next five videos with your pre-dip baseline, not with your best video ever.

Skip these popular "fixes": reinstalling the app, clearing your cache, switching between Business and Personal accounts, or buying engagement. None of them lifts a restriction, and buying engagement breaks TikTok's rules.

How long does a TikTok shadowban last?

There's no single length, because there's no single shadowban. Each restriction runs on its own clock:

What happenedHow long it lasts
Normal view dip (no restriction)No set duration: it's one video, not a state. Half of the 3-video slumps in our data spanned under 10 hours, which points to posting bursts
Video ineligible for the For You feedTikTok publishes no expiry. Treat it as permanent for that video unless your appeal succeeds
Video unavailable to viewers under 18Tied to that one video, same as above
Account ineligible for recommendationTemporary, but TikTok publishes no timeframe. You can appeal
Strike from a removed videoExpires after 90 days. A first violation can get a warning strike that doesn't count toward your tally

Where "two weeks" comes from. Search this question and you'll read "about two weeks" on page after page. Trace it back and you reach Later's shadowban guide, which based the figure on what shadowbanned creators reported. Other blogs repeated it, and some turned it into a hard limit. TikTok doesn't publish a shadowban duration, and we found no data behind the number.

Getting your views back afterwards

Once Account check is clear, the restriction isn't your problem anymore. Your next five videos are. The fastest way back is to stop guessing and build on what's already getting pushed in your niche.

That's what Creafico is for. It shows you which videos are working in your niche right now, so your comeback posts start from proven formats instead of a blank page.

FAQ

Does 0 views mean you're shadowbanned?

Not by itself. A new video can show 0 views while TikTok reviews it. If it's still at 0 after 24 hours, check the video's notice and Account check. Low views are also normal for small accounts: in our 2026 data, 61.2% of videos from accounts under 10K followers stayed below 1,000 views.

Will TikTok tell you if you're shadowbanned?

For real restrictions, yes. TikTok notifies you when a video breaks a rule or your account is restricted from recommendations, and Account check lists restrictions on your account and your last 30 posts. Normal view dips come with no notice, because they aren't restrictions.

Can TikTok shadowban comments?

Yes, in two ways. Violations can restrict your ability to comment, and Account check shows that restriction. Separately, a creator's comment filters can hide your comment on their video, since TikTok lets creators filter spam, offensive comments, and custom keywords. From your side, both look like a shadowban.

Will posting too much get me shadowbanned?

No. TikTok has no published posting limit, and a quarter of the creators in our data post 15 or more videos a month. What gets restricted is spam: identical reuploads, mass follows, bought engagement. Posting several videos within a few hours can lower views per video, though, because your audience gets split between them.

About the data

Creafico analyzed 7,249 public TikTok videos posted between January 1 and October 7, 2026, from 1,413 accounts submitted to our free profile analyzer. We removed pinned posts, duplicates, and videos less than 7 days old. The dip analysis covers 2,954 videos from 546 accounts with at least 10 videos, each compared with the median of that creator's previous 5 videos.

One limitation: creators who use an analyzer may skew toward people investigating a drop. All figures are aggregated, with no handles or videos identified. Full methodology
