You've probably heard the advice: just post every day, and eventually you'll go viral.
Consistency is great advice until you're filming and editing for hours a day, only to refresh your profile and see 0 views. Or, almost as frustrating, watching every upload land at the same 250 views, week after week, with no explanation.
Search for answers and you'll run straight into engagement-farming gurus telling you to "warm up" your account by scrolling, liking and commenting for 15 minutes so TikTok doesn't think you're a bot.

Notice how many of them conveniently have a sister, brother or best friend interning at TikTok who revealed all the algorithm's secrets?
Yeah, right.
It's easy to see why the advice spreads. The more desperate you are to escape a supposed shadowban, the more likely you are to follow the ritual and engage with the very videos promoting it. You think you're fixing your account. You're boosting theirs.
So we analyzed 24,373 TikTok videos from 2,769 creators to see what's actually going on.
Our 2026 TikTok Benchmark Study found that "why does my TikTok have 0 views" and "why am I not getting views on TikTok" are different problems. Treat them as the same, and you can waste weeks fixing the wrong thing.
Below, we break down the 8 main causes of low TikTok views, how to check each one in TikTok Studio, and what to do if a video is stuck at 0 views right now.
Step 0: Run Your Account Baseline First
Before diagnosing a single video, check whether it actually flopped or just hit your account's normal baseline. Drop your @handle into our free TikTok Profile Analyzer. In about 10 seconds it pulls your real median views, engagement rate and outlier threshold, so you can compare your numbers against the tiers below.
0 Views Right After Posting: What's Normal?
If your video has 0 views in the first 10 to 30 minutes, take your thumb off the delete button.
Every upload passes through an automated ingestion pipeline before a single person sees it. TikTok extracts your audio transcript, scans frames with computer vision and indexes your caption to decide who gets your first test batch.
- 0 views after 10–30 minutes: Normal processing time, especially for 60+ second high-bitrate videos, brand-new accounts or uploads scheduled from a desktop browser.
- 0 views after an hour: Most healthy uploads enter their first For You test within 15 to 60 minutes. If yours is still at literal 0, it didn't enter the test pool. It's stuck in processing, held in moderation or ineligible for the For You feed.
- 0 views after 24 hours: Only 7.3% of the 24,373 videos in our dataset finished under 100 views. A video still at 0 after a day was blocked from distribution. Run the checks below before touching it.
Is It a Glitch or Still Processing?
Rule out a server-side hiccup before blaming the algorithm. It usually comes down to one of three things:
- A platform-wide outage: Check Downdetector's TikTok status page. When TikTok's analytics lag, your video can be getting For You impressions while the public counter stays frozen at 0.
- Stuck in processing: Open the video link in an incognito browser or send it to a friend. If it still says "Video is being processed" or "Video currently unavailable" after an hour, the upload corrupted while publishing.
- Muted copyright audio: If you edited outside the app (CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve) and exported with music TikTok can't license commercially, it may silently mute the audio or hold the post at 0.
How to fix it: Don't hard-delete the video right away. Rapid delete-and-reupload cycles look like spam. Set the stuck video to Only Me, wait 5 minutes, then upload a fresh export from your camera roll using native TikTok audio or a verified commercial sound.
Is 0 Views a Shadowban?
Only if multiple videos in a row get 0% For You traffic. One video stalling near zero is almost always a single-post restriction or a weak hook, not an account-wide ban. Most creators who suffer a severe flop bounce back on their very next post (the numbers are in the sudden-drop section below).
To check:
- Open TikTok Studio > More Tools > Account Check. It scans your discoverability and flags restrictions across your last 30 posts.
- Check Inbox > System Notifications > Account Updates for quiet guideline strikes or appeal results.
- Run your handle through our free TikTok Shadowban Checker, or read our full guide to how TikTok shadowbans actually work. No 15-minute scrolling ritual required.
Why Am I Not Getting Views on TikTok? 8 Causes Ranked by View Tier
Once you're past literal 0, "why am I not getting views" is really a question about which view bracket your video stalled in. When we grouped all 24,373 videos by tier, clear patterns separated a 48-view stall from a 300-view test and a 100,000-view breakout.
| View tier | Share of videos | Median views | Shares per 1k views | Median length |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 100 (distribution block) | 7.3% | 28 | 0.00 | 31s |
| 100–699 (hook test) | 23.7% | 312 | 0.00 | 39s |
| 700–4,999 (retention) | 23.5% | 1,654 | 1.34 | 49s |
| 5,000–29,999 (broad FYP test) | 17.1% | 11,682 | 1.74 | 58s |
| 30,000–99,999 (breakthrough) | 8.8% | 55,702 | 2.14 | 60s |
| 100,000+ (mega outlier) | 19.6% | 559,427 | 2.56 | 60s |
A note on that last row: our sample leans toward established creators, which is why 100k+ videos are overrepresented. For small accounts, the typical ranges are lower (see Tier 2).
Compare the median from your Profile Analyzer report against the brackets below.
Tier 1: 0–100 Views — Distribution Block
If your video finished under 100 views, it never got a real For You test. One of two filters stopped it.
Cause 1: For You feed ineligibility. A video doesn't have to break Community Guidelines to be excluded from the For You feed. Under the For You feed eligibility standards in TikTok's Community Guidelines, reposts, watermarked clips, static slideshows and spam stay visible on your profile (earning a few follower views) but get no For You distribution.
How to check: Open the video's Analytics or run Account Check in TikTok Studio. If a banner says "Not eligible for the For You feed," tap it to appeal.
Cause 2: Silent automated suppression. Even with a clean Account Check, automated filters can hold a video back. TikTok's EU transparency reports put its automated moderation accuracy at 99.1% for the second half of 2024 and 97.6% for the second half of 2025. At TikTok's scale, the remaining few percent still means a lot of wrong calls, like a skincare creator whose dermaplaning tool was flagged as a dangerous blade.
How to check: Go through four elements with a fine-tooth comb: on-screen text, what you say, objects in frame and your hashtags. If anything brushes against a sensitive guideline, edit it out and test your account with our TikTok Shadowban Checker.
Tier 2: 100–700 Views — Healthy Account, Failed Hook
If your videos keep stopping between 100 and 700 views (the infamous "250-view jail"), your account is fine. TikTok showed your video to a test batch of roughly 200–500 real people, watched how they reacted and stopped pushing it.
For growing accounts, this is the statistical norm:
- Under 1,000 followers (4,430 videos): median 327 views; 61.0% finish under 500.
- 1k–10k followers (6,644 videos): median 818 views; 38.8% finish under 500.
Cause 3: Under 50% hook retention at 3 seconds. When a healthy video dies at 250 views, people are swiping in the first 3 to 5 seconds.
How to check: Open Analytics > Retention and look at viewers still watching at 3s. Aim for 50% or higher.
How to fix: Put your brightest light directly in front of your face, cut every frame of dead air before your first word, and add movement plus a punchy on-screen text hook in the first 3 seconds. Viewers stop scrolling when the opening feels personally relevant and promises something they haven't seen a hundred times.
Cause 4: Categorization failure (under 60% For You traffic). Sometimes a solid video stalls under 300 views because TikTok didn't know who to show it to.
How to check: Look at Analytics > Traffic Sources and Viewers. If less than 60% of traffic came from For You and few viewers were non-followers, the video wasn't categorized.
How to fix: Drop vague two-word captions. Give clear topic signals in your spoken intro, on-screen text and description. In our dataset, captions of 50–149 characters earned 3,940 median views, 47.7% more than captions under 50 characters (2,668).
Tier 3: 700–5,000 Views — Good Hook, Weak Storytelling
Consistently hitting 700 to 5,000 views means your hooks work. Viewers got past 3 seconds, TikTok sent a second wave, and that's where they dropped off.
Cause 5: Mid-video retention decay. Check the "Watched full video" graph. If your 3-second hold is above 50% but completion craters in the middle, viewers didn't believe sticking around would pay off.
How to fix: Make the payoff explicit right after the hook ("By the end of this video, you'll know exactly how to fix X") and trim the fluff. Videos that do hold attention can afford to run longer: in our data, 60–119 second clips had 7,395 median views versus 1,366 for clips under 15 seconds. Length alone isn't the cause, but it pays off once retention is there.
Cause 6: Generic idea packaging. If your lighting, editing and pacing are sharp but you keep stalling around 2,000 views, the idea or its packaging is too generic.
How to fix: You should be able to say in one sentence what the video gives the viewer: entertainment, inspiration or tactical education. Don't reinvent the wheel. Study top creators in your niche, find which videos beat their own baseline and templatize those hook formats and structures. Our TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator shows how your interaction rates compare to your niche.
Tier 4: 5,000–30,000+ Views — Breaking the Viral Ceiling
Past 5,000 views, watch time alone stops being enough. Shares become the gate. Below 700 views, the median video gets 0.00 shares per 1,000 views. Above 700 it jumps to 1.34, and 100k+ hits reach 2.56. If you stall between 5,000 and 30,000, you're missing a reason for people to send the video on.
Cause 7: Low emotional arousal. A "pretty good" video gets watched and swiped. Research by Wharton's Jonah Berger and Katherine Milkman found that content triggering high-arousal emotions such as awe, anger or anxiety is shared more, while low-arousal emotions like sadness are shared less. If your video doesn't make viewers feel something strong enough to DM it to a friend, it caps out in the mid-thousands.
Cause 8: No social currency or shareable utility. To break past 30,000 and 100,000 views, a video needs one strong reason to share:
- Relatable humor or social currency: sharing it makes the viewer look funny, plugged-in or smart.
- Uniquely actionable value: information specific enough to save or send to a teammate. In our dataset, 150–299 character educational captions had the highest share rate, 1.67 per 1,000 views, 50% above minimal captions.
- A clear creator moat: someone landing on your page should immediately see what sets you apart, whether that's top-tier editing, a signature storytelling style or deep subject knowledge.

Why Are My TikTok Views Suddenly Dropping?
You usually get 5,000 to 20,000 views, and suddenly a post sits under 100. First, breathe: one flop doesn't mean your account is ruined. Across 22,429 videos from 2,391 established creators, we measured how often healthy accounts get a severe dip (a video below 25% of that creator's median).
| Benchmark | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Severe dip rate | 9.77% of videos | About 1 in 10 posts flops below 25% of the creator's median. |
| Creators with at least one severe dip | 47.2% | Nearly half of all creators. |
| Next-video bounce-back | 3.53x | The next post outperforms the flop by 3.53x on median; 60.1% of creators exit the dip zone right away. |
How to recover from a sudden flop:
- Don't delete it. Leave the post up so your account keeps the watch-time data.
- Use a one-off Story nudge. If a video you know is good stalled under 300 views with low For You traffic, share it to your Story. Followers engaging with it can give TikTok the signals it needs to categorize the video. Don't do this every time, or you'll train followers to skip your Stories.
- Remake it. You can't judge an idea by one attempt. Swap the first 3-second hook, turn a talking head into a voiceover or reframe an educational list as a personal story.
Final Thoughts
0 views and 250 views are different problems. Literal 0 is a distribution issue: processing, a glitch or a For You restriction, all of which you can check in TikTok Studio. A stall in the hundreds or low thousands means your account is healthy, and the video lost viewers at a specific point: the hook, the middle or the reason to share.
So before you delete, re-upload or start scrolling for 15 minutes to "warm up" your account:
- Compare the video against your own baseline with the TikTok Profile Analyzer.
- Find the tier it stalled in.
- Fix the one cause that tier points to, then post the next video. Most flops are followed by a better post.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I getting zero views on TikTok?
Right after posting, 0 views usually means the video is still in TikTok's processing and moderation queue. If it's still at 0 after an hour or more, it was likely marked ineligible for the For You feed, muted for copyrighted audio or caught in an indexing delay. Check TikTok Studio > Account Check.
Does 0 views mean I'm shadowbanned?
No. One video at 0 views is almost always a single-post flag or an upload glitch. In our data, about 1 in 10 videos suffers a severe dip, and 60.1% of creators recover on their next post. A shadowban only shows up as 0% For You traffic across several videos in a row.
Why does my TikTok have 0 views after an hour?
It didn't enter the first For You test, which usually starts within 15 to 60 minutes. The likely reasons: a long, high-resolution video still in automated review, a "Not eligible for the For You feed" restriction or a platform-wide view counter outage.
Why is TikTok suddenly giving me 0 views?
A sudden drop from thousands to under 100 usually means an automated filter caught something (restricted words on screen, a flagged object in frame) or a topic change confused categorization. Severe dips are common: 47.2% of creators have had at least one.
Is there a glitch on TikTok right now?
Check Downdetector's TikTok status page, then open your video's Analytics. During a display glitch, the public counter stays at 0 while Analytics already shows For You traffic and watch time.
How long does it take for the TikTok algorithm to work?
TikTok usually sends a first test batch of roughly 200–500 viewers within 15 to 60 minutes. It then weighs 3-second retention (aim for 50%+), completion and shares (1.34+ per 1,000 views) to decide whether to push the video wider over the next 24 to 72 hours.
